Experience
Michael practises nationally in all kinds of complex commercial disputes, particularly in the areas of competition law, insolvency, corporations law, financial services and energy and resources. He has acted for and advised many regulators and government agencies, and individuals and corporations engaging with government or the subject of regulatory investigations or civil penalty proceedings.
In 2018, he was one of the Senior Counsel assisting the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry. He has regularly appeared before or assisted in commissions of inquiry and public reviews.
In competition law, Michael has appeared and advised the ACCC, individuals and Australian and foreign corporations in relation to investigations and proceedings in respect of allegations concerning mergers, cartels, abuse of market power, and unconscionable conduct. He is listed by Doyle’s Guide as a recommended senior counsel in competition law and in commercial litigation.
Michael is a member of the Corporations Committee and the Competition and Consumer Committee of the Law Council of Australia. He has spoken widely on topics including corporate governance, director’s liability and ethical conduct.
