On behalf of New Chambers, I congratulate our colleague Catherine Gleeson SC on her appointment as Senior Counsel.
The appointment as senior counsel provides a clear and public identification of Catherine as a barrister whose skills, legal experience and personal qualities mark her out as being the best within our profession. Catherine’s appointment is also an acknowledgement by the bar and judiciary that she has qualities of leadership.
The appointment of Catherine is not only a significant achievement for her but also a cause for celebration for New Chambers.
Her appointment brings with it the onerous responsibilities of maintaining the distinguished tradition and expectation of both service and leadership that has been central to the institution of senior counsel and its predecessor titles for hundreds of years.
I know that Catherine will uphold these responsibilities and on behalf of New Chambers, I warmly congratulate her.
