New Chambers is excited to announce that, as of 16 October 2019, its members have adopted a formal parental leave policy.
New Chambers is committed to supporting its barristers to balance work and family obligations, and to ensure that a career at the bar is not inconsistent with a healthy and dynamic family life. This policy seeks to provide flexible and modern solutions for barristers who wish to take parental leave, and to provide ample support for barristers upon their return to work. This policy is in broad terms and applies to all families, including single sex couples, single parent families, guardians, and adoptive parents.
New Chambers recognises the importance of flexibility. Although the policy describes the minimum standards that the Board will adhere to, there is absolute discretion to depart from the terms of the policy where a different arrangement may be more suitable to the barrister in question.
