From Afghanistan to Australia: Perspectives on gender and the Law before and after resettlement

New Chambers is proud to have hosted the event From Afghanistan to Australia: Perspectives on gender and the Law before and after resettlement, a joint initiative of the NSW Bar Association Diversity and Equality Committee, the Women Barristers Forum and the NSW Women Lawyers Association.

Her Honour Judge Tupman of the District Court of New South Wales, chaired a panel of women Afghan judges who resettled in Australia after the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in 2021. The Afghan judges spoke about their experience as judges in Afghanistan, issues of gender equality facing women in Afghanistan and pathways to legal practice in Australia available to them after resettlement.

Winnie Liu of New Chambers is a member of the NSW Diversity and Equality Committee and one of the organisers of the event.
