Welcome to Nicholas Carey and Thomas Scott

New Chambers warmly welcomes our newest Readers – Nicholas Carey and Thomas Scott.

Prior to being called to the Bar, Nicholas was Senior Associate to the Hon Justice Michelle Gordon AC of the High Court of Australia, Associate to the Hon Justice Michael Lee of the Federal Court of Australia, and a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills. While a solicitor, he acted in a range of commercial, public law and regulatory disputes, including in the areas of financial services, climate change, class actions and administrative law.

Nicholas graduated with a Juris Doctor (Distinction) from the University of New South Wales.

Before studying law, Nicholas was a professional clarinetist and clarinet teacher. He also holds a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with First Class Honours from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Thomas was a Senior Associate at Corrs Chambers Westgarth in the class actions and commercial litigation practice groups.  He was named a “Rising Star” in Dispute Resolution (Class Actions) by The Legal 500 (2022 and 2023). 

 

Thomas developed particular expertise and experience in class action procedure, corporate disputes and schemes of arrangement, and matters giving rise to issues of private international law.

 

Thomas was previously Associate to the Hon. Justice Kathleen Farrell formerly of the Federal Court of Australia, while providing additional assistance to the Hon. Justice Michael Lee (with whom he has co-authored material for the Australian Law Journal). 

 

Thomas graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Juris Doctor (Distinction) and awarded the Juris Doctor Medal for graduating first in his cohort.  He also placed first for Competition Law, Insurance Law, Court Processes, Evidence, and Federal Constitutional Law.
