Experience
Mr Fitzgerald has been an arbitrator and mediator (and has provided binding determinations) since 2002 and has acted as an arbitrator and mediator in Australia and overseas in relation to a wide range of disputes. Prior to that, he was a judge. He was the inaugural President of the Qld Court of Appeal and has also served as a judge of the NSW Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of the ACT. In addition, he has conducted three public inquiries, including a major inquiry into official corruption in Queensland. He has been a QC for more than 40 years. He has held many public offices, details of which are set out in his cv. He is an honorary professor at Griffith University, was a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne Law School and the inaugural Chancellor of the University of the Sunshine Coast and holds honorary doctorates from three universities. He is a Companion of the Order of Australia.
