Appointment of Life Members of the Australian Bar Association

New Chambers warmly congratulates Patrick Keane AC KC and Neil Young KC on their Appointment of Life Membership to the Australian Bar Association.

Australian Bar Association Announcement:

The Council of the ABA has recently resolved to appoint two life members of the Association, the Hon. Pat Keane AC KC and the Hon. Neil Young KC.

To be appointed as a lifetime member of the ABA acknowledges an individual’s exceptional service to justice, the law, and the profession.

In appointing the Hon. Patrick Keane AC KC, the ABA noted:

“The Hon. Patrick Keane AC KC’s contribution to the Australian legal landscape has been enormous. He has been an exemplar of a barrister in his approximately three decades at the QLD Bar. Nearly half of that was spent as Queensland’s Solicitor-General. He appeared in cases of great significance in all courts, from the High Court of Australia down. His intellectual leadership at the Bar was enormous.

Keane AC KC also served with distinction for nearly 20 years on the Queensland Court of Appeal, as Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia, and as a Justice of the High Court of Australia. The same intellectual leadership he had shown at the Bar was again shown on those Courts. He has an enduring legacy in his judgments.”

In appointing The Hon. Neil Young KC, the ABA remarked:

“The Hon. Neil Young KC has given great service to the Victorian and national Bar. Young KC served both as the Chairman of the Victorian Bar and President of the Australian Bar Association.

As a barrister, Young KC is one of the great exemplars of what it is to be a barrister. He provides intellectual rigour and determination in the conduct of his cases and scrupulously adheres to and promotes the qualities of fearlessness and independence upon which the Bar relies.”
